1916 movie directed by a Chinese American woman

I ran across The Curse of Quon Gwon on TCM.  Made in 1916, it could be the first movie directed by a woman or a Chinese person.  Oakland resident Marion E. Wong directed and produced this movie when she was 21 years old.  It was financed by her uncle.

What remains of this movie is hard to follow, but is kind of a miracle nonetheless.  All the actors are Chinese Americans.  The acting is the same melodramatic style as other American movies of the era. A lot of the camera work isn’t bad for the time.  The costumes and sets stand out.
